Theunis Kotze, General Manager of ADT Inland Region, comments:
This unfortunate incident took place on 27 July 2015 at 12:45 at the entrance of a complex in Killarney.
Four suspects were involved in the incident – two approached the vehicle, one the guardhouse and the fourth stayed in the getaway vehicle. While the two suspects held up the visitors at the entrance, the third suspect held the ADT guard at gunpoint in the guardhouse instructing him to lie on the floor. As the guard was moving down onto the floor, he pressed the panic button alerting ADT to the scene.
The robbery was over within minutes and unfortunately when the ADT Reaction Officers and SAPS arrived on the scene, the suspects had fled.
Thanks to the proactive filming of the incident by a neighbour, the SAPS now has the getaway vehicle’s registration details and these have also been syndicated to all guarding staff at ADT. We are on high alert in the area for any suspicious activity and on the lookout for the vehicle.
The ADT guard who was held-up is receiving trauma counselling.
We have met with the Chairperson of the complex to discuss the incident as well as spoken to guards in the opposite building to get as much information as possible.
At this time the hijack victim does not want to be contacted but we are available to offer whatever support she may need.
