When Fidelity ADT received an alarm activation from a property in Newart Street, Helderkruin, just before 22:00, Reaction Officer Takalani Tshitangano was dispatched to the scene.
“As I arrived, I saw a young male suspect inside the garage holding a hammer. I ordered him to drop the hammer which he did and I proceeded to apprehend him,” reports the Officer.
Upon investigation it was found that the suspect had climbed over the palisade fence and broken into the garage. When he was searched a knife was found in his back pocket.
“We commend Officer Tshitangano for the way he handled the situation,” says Fidelity ADT Community Development Manager, Nicholas Govender. “We want to encourage all residents to make sure that there are no vulnerable areas in their perimeter security especially now as we approach the festive season. There is always an increase in crime just ahead of the season so let’s get prepared,” he says.
