The 3rd of January started routinely for Fidelity ADT Reaction Officer Petrus Komane. He reported for duty for his first night shift of the year at 17:35 at the offices in Witbank. Just after 18:00 he responded to his first alarm activation at a business in Kruger street.
On arrival all looked in order and he met up with the business owner who was closing the business for the day. Once the property had been properly inspected he returned to his vehicle and had just opened the driver’s door when he spotted two suspicious suspects approaching him on foot from the direction of Haig street. One of the suspects drew a firearm and fired towards Officer Komane. The bullet lodged in the door’s bullet proof glass. Officer Komane immediately returned fire and the two suspects fled on foot.
The incident was reported and logged with Witbank SAPS who arrived on the scene. At this time the reason for the shooting is unknown and fortunately no injuries to the officer were sustained.
“Officer Komane is commended for his vigilance and quick response,” says Joe De Bruyn. Community Development Manager for Fidelity ADT.
