Upcoming Motor Mech dates confirmed

Following its successful first event earlier this year, Motor Mech 2020, hosted by the Motor Industry Workshop Association (MIWA), will be held at Newton Technical High School in Port Elizabeth on 22 February 2020. MIWA is a proud association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI).

Event co-ordinators, Bridget Finn from Finn Auto Repairs, Peter van Mosseveld, a representative of MIWA in the Eastern Cape, and the department head of mechanics at Newton Technical High School, Hannes Crafford, met in October to finalise the plans and say the gates will open at 9:00 and close at 15:00.

The action-packed line-up will include a Classic Cars display and a showdown between the top mechanics in the area. “We will once again have a mechanic competition in the morning for the technical high schools and in the afternoon a motor mechanic competition for MIWA workshops. We will have the same activities and displays as last year, but we are confident it will be on a bigger scale,” says Finn.

All the proceeds from the event will go to the Newton Technical High School and will be put to good use developing much-needed skills. MIWA is a proud association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI).

“We want to raise awareness and excitement about the motor industry. We want junior school children to know there is a career in Motor Mechanics and to know which schools are available for this career. For those in high school, we would like to educate them on what the industry is all about and the options in terms of colleges and workshops that are available. We are passionate about this industry, from training, to quality parts, to graded workshops and working together to improve skills levels and customer experiences,” says van Mosseveld.

During the day there will be various car and motor bike displays, kids activities and food and drinks stalls. “There will also be displays around the school including various MIWA workshops, spare shops, spare manufacturers, colleges, Moto Health and other motor-related industries. It’s going to be a great day and we want to encourage everyone to come and support us. Our aim is to get 5 000 people through the gates before we close at 15:00. Come along for some fun and bring your friends and family. Let’s support this great cause,” concludes Finn.
